Great stuff as usual, FinnMK! I almost enjoy that it isn't as big as your songs usually are, but there are so many interesting things happening rhythmically that keep it interesting throughout. The sections that hit at 1:02 and 2:27 are my favourite parts of the song :) I also have a soft spot for songs that are short and sweet so I enjoyed this a lot. Good luck this round!

FinnMK responds:

Variety is the spice of music and life, for sure. Those sections are the 'choruses', though it's sorta hard to tell with this song structure haha. Looking forward to yours!

John showed me this piece before he knew who submitted it, but he suspected it was you. I was absolutely astounded by this piece and how perfectly it fit the theme. You'd be a formidable talent if you were 30 years old, but you're about half of that and it just blows me away that you're making this sort of thing at your age. Honestly, this is one of the best things I've ever heard on this site and the best piece I've heard coming out of a Chips compo by far. This piece is so good that you're making me feel quite inarticulate in trying to describe how impressed I am by it and how much I love it. Fantastic work and keep it up!

Miyolophone responds:

Thank you so much for the praise, Dan! Quite frankly, I wrote this when after being struck with a monstrous lightning bolt of inspiration (which doesn't happen often) so I'm somewhat concerned I'm not going to be able to live up to all this hype on Chips, but I'll do my best. I'm very happy that you were impressed!

Great to hear the podcast! I always enjoy these :) As usual, great voice, and FinnMK's music in the background was a nice touch!

@TaintedLogic -- I always pronounced it like Mack-Gorilla, but a lot of people seem to read it as "Em-Cee Gorilla" or "Mick Gorilla" like how Chrono said it. I really don't mind! You can call me Dan if that's easier. I see that Chrono mentioned this in his reply to you and yeah we did talk about it (a few people have asked for some reason).

ChronoNomad responds:

I know that you must be pretty busy with your Quarterfinals track and such, so thanks a bunch for taking the time to review my humble podcast! Glad to hear that you enjoyed listening to me ramble on about the NGADM yet again. :D

I've been taking all previous comments into consideration, so adding something big and exciting right from the start seems like the way to go, which is what brought me to Finn's magical air balloon of lavenderness. I'd really like to show all you talented musicians some love in the same way, but unless I make like an hour-long podcast, that's probably not going to be feasible...

So you say it like "Mack-Gorilla?" Just like Ewan MacGregor or MacGyver, but without the vowel. That I didn't know, but I'll certainly keep it in mind going forward! I think folks usually want to have a keen grasp of what someone's name, or in this case pseudonym, sounds like. Regardless of whether they'll ever actually say it out loud or not.

Welp, thanks again! Can't wait to hear what you and your fellow combatants come up with this round.

Wow. I did not expect this at all and the execution is absolutely flawless. It's not even a style of music I listen to but I'm really enjoying this and I'm incredibly impressed not only by the song, but your versatility. Fantastic work and good luck in the competition! :)

bassfiddlejones responds:

Thank you sir gorilla! We decided to go for it, haha. Totally uncharted territory

This is absolutely beautiful, Jordi. I'm so happy it came together. The lyrics are great and are also particular poignant in context, even though I'm not sure it's necessarily about a particular situation, but I'm sure everyone can relate to them. Wonderful work!

etherealwinds responds:

eeeek thank you, temporary competitor. haha you're so diplomatic with your wording, reminds me of me ^_~

I'm happy you liked it, and I'm actually happy you made a cameo in Grant and Ethan's track! Might be the only time we get the chance to face off each other!

I love this so much, John. It was such a pleasure and honour doing some work with you, especially on such an excellent track. I hadn't heard the bridge before and it's a wonderful touch. And that vocal chopping at the end was amazing! I want to get Ableton just so you can share this session with me because I feel like I could learn a bunch from what you did. Excellent work, I love this.

PS. I hear which line you wanted a second version of and I'll do it for you if you like when I get the chance :) Sorry I wasn't able to get to it. And sorry for saying sorry. Sory. Hemlo. Joooooordi

THE TRUE MVP

Damn it, this is great, Steelside! I'm working on a piece that incorporates similar electronic/vocal elements and you've really demonstrated how to execute this style really damn well and it's quite inspiring. Fantastic work! I'm super impressed by this one. Definitely my favourite out of the 16 that I've heard so far.

Killer as always, Jamie. Excellent work!

TSRBand responds:

Thanks for checking it out! \m/

How...how are you so good and only 16 years old? This blew my mind so hard. I can't describe the level of talent and skill I'm hearing here and the fact that you're only 16 makes that reaction a hundred times stronger. You are an utterly phenomenal talent and I'd love to hear how you got to this point. There's room for improvement with the mix and obviously better VSTs would help, but those are minor in comparison with the level of skill required to create a piece with such a well-thought out arrangement and composition. Stunning, remarkable, fantastic and honestly quite unbelievable work.

Also, teach me pls.

Miyolophone responds:

I'm a terrible teacher tho ;-;
Thank you so much! I finally did an age reveal to score extra sympathy points with the judges in NGUAC, not that it really did much to help haha but I'm happy it ended up impressing somebody, anyway... and to be fair, I did spend quite a long time composing this one. Patience always helps, of course.

Very full arrangement you have here, but it's mixed really nicely so it fits together. The parts where you automate the low passes and the song dips down before building up are great. I also love the progression that hits at 1:17. And that drum fill around 1:28 is juicy as hell.

Good luck this round and great work with this track! :)

Spadezer responds:

Alright, all kind words from you. I got a little nervous seeing all of that text from you lol.

Again, I wish you luck. This is shaping up to be a great round

I make music. Some is electronic and some has guitars and pianos in it. I'm mainly focusing on game music at the moment.
Hope you enjoy what you find here!
